MS LOUISIANA SENIOR AMERICA 2015, SALLY BETH VICK
Sally Beth Vick was graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham at age 41 – a journey of 20 years - with a BA in Art Studio and a minor in Art History, and was the first recipient of the University’s Art Department Chairman’s Award for Academic Excellence.
During her career with the U. S. Small Business Administration, Sally served as a Liquidation Loan Officer, and a Business Opportunity Specialist working with agencies such as NASA and Missile Command, to get federal contracts set aside for minority and women-owned businesses. Prior to retiring she also was its Public Information Officer (#1 in the Nation for one year) and served as EEOC Counselor.
Sally was appointed as Women’s Business Opportunity Representative for three years and was a judge in the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) Regional Competition for Colleges and Universities in the Southeastern Region. She was Past-president of Xi Upsilon Chapter Beta Sigma Phi (Social & Service Sorority) and Woman of the Year. She served on the city library board for 20 years and received a commendation from the State House of Representatives for her activities.
Mrs. Vick has loved to sing from childhood when her mother stood her on a chair in a small country church and let her sing while she played piano. She enjoys entertaining in churches, nursing homes, senior centers, and other gatherings, and especially enjoys her church’s Amazing Grays Choir. She has volunteered with the Special Olympics, American Cancer Society and the Heart Association. Red Cross. Three years ago, she fulfilled one item on her “bucket list” by beginning vocal lessons.
For 52 years, she has been married to Jimmy Vick. Fifteen years into their marriage, they were blessed with a daughter who has given them two wonderful grandchildren who are the joy of their lives.
Sally enjoys each day that God has given her and it’s her desire to lead a life that reflects her Christian beliefs. It is her goal that age not interfere with living life to its fullest and giving joy to others along the way.
