The District of Columbia Pageant is presented by the DC Seniors Cameo Club, under the direction of State Administrator Ms. Stacie Mack, ALM, CDP, Program Director of Seabury Resources for Aging.

MS DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SENIOR AMERICA 2018, PHYLLIS JORDAN

Ms. District of Columbia, Phyllis Jordan CONGRATULATIONS to PHYLLIS JORDAN, Ms District of Columbia Senior America 2018 and the wonderful Ms. Senior D.C. Pageant team for a fabulous Queen!

A  resident of Washington DC, Phyllis Jordan is the 4th of 5 children born to the late Sylvester Sr. and Emma L. Jordan. Attending the University of New Mexico and Langston University, Phyllis majored in Broadcast Journalism. Her background in communications includes employment as News Producer for an ABC affiliate in Oklahoma City and Morning News Anchor and Legislative Reporter the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority. Phyllis has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Pacific Realm training for thousands of professionals while working as a professional Motivational Speaker for CareerTrack. Her public speaking career spans well over thirty years, where her audiences’ attendance regularly exceeded 500 participants. Her expertise in management and leadership skills include training in various topics, including Interpersonal Communications Skills, Dealing with Difficult People, Image and Projection for Professional Women, Assertive Communication Skills, Stress Management, Conflict and Confrontation Resolution, Cultural Diversity, Effective Listening, Teamwork, Managing Anger, Self Esteem, Rape and Sexual Assault Prevention, and Customer Service. Phyllis frequently developed and customized training materials and seminars as requested. Jordan is also a published author having written several articles for Black Enterprise Magazine.

As director of her own business in the early ‘90s, she worked with public assistance clients in workforce development programs, teaching life and career skills, which focused on decision-making, communications and values clarification. Her list of clients includes, but is not limited to, Montgomery College’s Bio Tech program in Maryland, Avon’s National Headquarters in New York, NASA, and Architect of the Capitol in Washington, DC, the Canadian Stock Exchange, the National Association of Business Women, the US Army, and West Point. Additionally, she provided contractual services for the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Protective Services. While working for GSA, Phyllis was requested by top ranking officials to develop a business plan, which successfully secured $600,000 in start-up funds for GSA’s University for People. Presently, Phyllis works as a contractor for the US Department of State managing 22 federal advisory committees to ensure compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act.

Serving as Ms. Senior District of Columbia, Phyllis has established her platform to address isolated seniors. She is currently collaborating with the Deputy Mayor of DC and the Executive Director of the Office on Aging to implement a program referred to as “Companions for Isolated Seniors (CIS). The CIS program establishes partnerships with the faith based community to participate in an “adoption” process whereby groups of 4 collectively agree to adopt 1 isolated senior. Each volunteer group (4) agrees to visit an isolated senior 20-30 minutes at least once each month. The purpose of CIS is to bring the outside world inside to support isolated seniors with comfort, socialization as well as friendship.

Phyllis is the mother of two adult children and has one grandson.
