MS DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SENIOR AMERICA 2014, LATONYA JACKSON
CONGRATULATIONS to LATONYA JACKSON, Ms District of Columbia Senior America 2014!
Latonya (Toni) Jackson is a native Washingtonian. She graduated from McKinley Technical High School in 1967, where she was active in both school and city-wide choral groups and talent shows.
Latonya graduated from Howard University in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She was hired by the Commerce Department, Office of Export Control as a Collegiate Fellow. She later earned a Master’s Degree in Reading Specialization from the University of District of Columbia.
As an export Policy Analyst for the Commerce Department, reviewed policies relevant to chemical and biological weapons treaties. Later as an Export Administration Specialist, she supervised an outreach and education staff that counseled the business community and provided training through seminars and conferences. Latonya enhanced her knowledge through membership in the Society of Government Meeting Professionals and served on the National Capital Chapter’s Board of Directors from 2009-2011. She retired on January 3, 2014 with 42 years of government service.
Latonya joined Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1998. She is currently active in the Usher Ministry, the Street Ministry, which feeds and ministers to the homeless, and the Music Ministry. She has three adult children and one grandchild.
In her spare time, Latonya likes to dance. She is a graduate of the Simply Swing Hand Dance Academy and an affiliate of the Banneker Ballroom Dance Club. She is a member of Jazzercise, a line dancer and participant in step and aqua aerobics. Latonya loves to travel, most recently visiting the Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Western Caribbean. Other interests include gardening, reading, music, beading and entertaining family and friends.
